Putting the Christ back in Christmas

Dear Editor, – I am writing to you as a confused Christian. Having been into Perth and seeing the wonderful Christmas decorations I became rather puzzled when I saw Season Greetings outside Argos. I looked at it and thought that maybe we were celebrating the season of Winter. But why is the council spending money on celebrating this season and not the rest. What is wrong with Summer and Autumn? Myself I quite like Spring since this was the season that my wife, children and myself were born. Will this decoration stay up all year round?

It is kind of strange that we are a country with many different cultures that in their own right have their own different religion. I am a Christian. This country is Christian. To these people who think we should be politically correct, and should not have Christmas decorations in our offices or the word Merry on our cards. I say to them, this is a Christian country. Christianity came to this country well over 1500 years ago. We as Christians living in a Christian society should not have to put up with these people who think that saying Merry Christmas might offend another religion.

I can’t say the word Christianity enough. I was born in this country so my parents brought me up as a Christian as their parents before them and so on.

I think we have to be really open about this as I am sure if you asked someone from another religion if they were offended about Christmas, I would think they probably would not.

These people who sit in their offices and spiel out the biggest load of hog-wallop should maybe get a job. They are in the minority.

Let us celebrate Christmas, let us be Merry, let us not hear the call of season’s greetings from Santa. Who has said Ho-ho-ho for many years now. What is the problem with celebrating one of our most important festivals of the Christian year by having a Merry Christmas.
