Dear Editor, – In 2006 Perth and Kinross Council granted full planning permission to SITA to build an incinerator at Binn Farm to burn municipal waste.
Now SITA has applied to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) for a PPC licence.
If it gets this licence, it will be free to burn up to 60,000 tonnes of waste each year. Any toxic emissions from the plant will flow down through Abernethy, which is only a couple of miles downwind.
If we are to have any chance of stopping this happening, we all need to do two things:
1. Write a letter to SEPA, objecting to SITA’s application for a PPC licence (deadline for submission is May 17).
2. Get all our friends and neighbours to do the same.
TEAG has prepared a list of arguments that you can use (http://www.teag.org.uk). Please don’t copy these arguments word-for-word as your letters won’t have the same impact if you do.
Please don’t miss this opportunity to have your say. If you need any more information about incineration, check the TEAG web site www.teag.org.uk
Send letters to: The Registrar, SEPA, Strathearn House, Broxden Business Park, Perth, PH1 1RX. Or send an email to: registryperth@sepa.org.uk
