Dear Editor, – I was interested to read your article about the Logiealmond windfarm proposal. I live in Little Glenshee and almost every window in my house looks directly at the windfarm site.
My husband went to the Vattenfall open day and I was at the public inquiry for the proposed Calliacher windfarm this week.
Although I am strongly opposed to the proposed Logiealmond windfarm I did not object in principle to Vattenfall making itself available to answer questions.
The issue for me is that the windfarm developers do not actually provide any answers on these occasions, but simply spin out PR jargon about maximising unspecified opportunities and benefits for the local community.
At no time has anyone from Amec or Vattenfall clarified what benefit or opportunity I am likely to gain from the desecration of the fantastic scenery around my home, the damage to local tourism, the fall in the value of my house and the adverse health impact to my two small boys of new electric transmission lines.
The councillor speaking at the inquiry repeatedly asked the developer’s representative what the positives were which they so regularly referred to. The developer did not have any answers to offer.
In fact the only benefit I have gained from this whole process is that I now truly appreciate every aspect of the magnificent untouched view from my window, as opposed to taking it for granted.
Let us hope that the outcome of the Logiealmond public inquiry in August does not result in the ruin of another Perthshire gem.
