Dear Editor, – At last Monday night’s monthly meeting of Scone and District Community Council no one was more surprised than I at the resignation of all the remaining eight Community Councillors following the immediate past chairman’s prepared statement.
On Monday, April 27, Scone and District Community Council held their agm in the Robert Douglas Memorial School. During this meeting I advised the Community Council members that according to their constitution an election must be held every three years, therefore a full election must be held this year, when all members must stand down and seek re election if they so wish.
This was why I was so surprised, I saw little point in resigning as they were all standing down at the meeting anyway.
I am extremely saddened that people I have worked with and got to know since I was elected two years ago have decided to take this action; they are all volunteers and give their time freely so we must respect their decision.
Election notices have been on display since April 14 and are due to take place on Thursday, June 25, nomination forms are available from the Post Office, Perth Road Scone and in the Library, Sandy Road, Scone, nomination forms duly completed must be lodged by 4pm on the afternoon of Thursday, June 4, to myself as the Returning Officer, Councillor Dennis Melloy, Perth & Kinross Council, Council Building, 2 High Street, Perth, PH1 5PH.
I hope as many of you as possible will put your name forward to represent your fellow residents on Scone and District Community Council, membership is apolitical, that is to say you leave your political aspirations at the door. As a former Community Councillor I know at first hand how rewarding and enjoyable it can be.
I would like to thank all retiring Community Councillors for all their hard work and endeavour over the past few years and wish them well for the future.
Councillor Dennis Melloy.
