Suspicious minds at work over supermarket

Dear Editor, – What is it about contentious planning applications that kindles in the mind a form of suspicion so strong that inevitably gives rise to mistrust of local authority, akin to the national sentiment over a government which has “lost all moral authority?” (Quote Caroline Lucas, Green Party, whose aspiration was towards “government not overshadowed by corporate lobbying.”)

Each time this Edinburgh-based consultant gets a mention in the proposal for yet another supermarket at Scone (PA, June 16), I wonder how many are unaware that GVA Grimley also advises 60 Westminster government departments and includes lobbying among their activities?

Was the private firm’s involvement at Crieff not so independent after all in respect of an application submitted by one of their own clients?

So, what binding assurance is given, other than whispers behind Chinese walls within corporate board rooms, that the eventual identity of the successful developer will not be Tesco?
