Dear Editor, – I was not surprised to hear the news that Perth and Kinross Council planning committee had approved the supermarket in Scone.
Once more the financial interests of the council, landowners and developers have taken precedence over the wishes of the majority of residents.
As far as the council are concerned, Scone is an easy target for raising revenue without having to expend monies on facilities for its residents.
Considering that the village represents the fourth most populated area in Perth and Kinross little has been provided for the use of its residents, certainly in the 42 years I have stayed here.
In that same period places like Kinross, Pitlochry, Blairgowrie and areas of Perth have had a great deal of infrastructure investment provided whilst Scone has had little or nothing provided.
This supermarket will exacerbate the already difficult traffic problems in the village a matter not helped by what appears to be the complete inability of the police to exert any form of control over the constant speeding through the villages 30mph limit nor stop the daily congestion problems caused at the Tesco Metro petrol station.
Once more a decision by the planning committee will have a negative effect on Scone and its residents but hey what the heck they can afford it!
