Dear Editor, – I am very interested in Scottish history and in Scottish Regiments and I get upset when Governments and officials do not take care of important historical matters in our country of Scotland.
It has been brought to my attention that the Birthplace of John Buchan - Lord Tweedsmuir in 1875 in Perth - is not being cared for properly.
The housing is even cordoned off to protect the public from any danger. There is a plaque on the house in York Place recording this was the birthplace of John Buchan but it seems that the public in Scotland are not aware of this important factor in the life of one of our famous Scots.
I am contacting Perth and Kinross Council conservation officer and also Historic Scotland to see if this property is listed.
Tourists and people interested in John Buchan will want to visit and not see a cordoned off housing area which does not show Perth and Scotland in a good light.
I hope that readers of your excellent newspaper will visit York Place in Perth and contact their councillors and council.
