Dear Editor, – At last Perth is showing signs of 'loosening up' – I actually witnessed adults getting woven into the spell of magic that surrounded this marvellous market.
Young people, starting off self-consciously and cynical, started to loosen up as the intrepid stall holders refused to be down-trodden by their sometimes sullen little faces.
And as the thaw started, faces young and old lighting up as they planted their seeds of hope, got rid of their bile in the bile blaster, made a wish in the well, had their optimism checked and renewed for another year, bought a timeshare in Heaven, Nirvana or Valhalla, started viewing the world through rose-tinted spectacles – buying all with the Neuros that could be withdrawn freely from booths – yes, truly free withdrawal!
After being reminded of how long ago the Plague was, I was even moved to alter my view of rats and adopt one. (I have named him Sebastian and I shall treasure him).
This initiative has arrived at exactly the right time and perhaps will help Perth to shake off its rather stiff outer coating and release the sense of play and creativity that is longing for an outlet.
Well done to all who arranged it, developed it and took part in it – and I look forward to the next 'playday' here in Perth (my optimism reading was quite high, but of course having renewed it for another year it's fantastically high at the moment).
