October holiday not logical

Dear Editor, – Please could someone explain to me the logic behind a public holiday the first Monday in October.

It does not make any sense at all and causes chaos to people in Perth with no doctors surgeries open and no mail delivery.

I cannot see the reason behind it. There are enough holidays in the year without taking stupid ones. It seems like laziness to me.
