Editor: Meals on Wheels issue won't vanish

IF Councillor Barrett and the rest of his meal-snatching colleagues on PKC are hoping that the meals on wheel debacle is running out of steam, then they are sadly mistaken.

I hear that fellow community campaigners, Radio Tay, have also taken up the cause with a number of phone-ins, and the PA’s Friday mailbag is again bursting at the seams with your comments.

One reader emailed to make a very good point. Explaining that his wife does a meals on wheel run, he said: “I understand from friends involved that both Edinburgh and Aberdeen went down the frozen meals road.

“They are now reaping the benefit of an unpredicted budget cost because the so called 'befrienders' are in fact additional social work staff who are paid as such.

“I wonder if Peter Barrett and his cohorts have bothered to look outside the box. May be this explains why Aberdeen have a problem with their budget?”
