A FRENCH friend yesterday told me how her niece is all set to visit her Perth home for a couple of months to improve her English.
Still reeling from the experience of entertaining my nephew last week, I asked ‘mon amie’ how she was planning to occupy the girl for the best part of eight weeks.
“Entertain!” she shrugged (in true Gallic fashion). “I have emailed her the details of a local employment agency. There’s no better way to improve your English than with a summer job.”
Just goes to show the difference between our nationalities...and who’s got the right idea.
Scots kids seem to think that summer holidays should be one big round of expensive outings and trips to burger bars.
Next year I’m getting the nephew a paper round.
lSTILL on the subject of entertaining the nephew, the husband and I drove the lad through to Dundee for a trip round The Discovery on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year.
You would think that an exhibition about polar exploration might have been...well...cool. As the Mercury soared into the high twenties, we sweated and sweltered past displays of penguins, blizzards and frostbitten sailors.
At almost £20 quid a pop for the three of us, the very least I expected is air conditioning.
