New poppies

A READER has asked for my thoughts on the new-style, 'stick-on' poppy. While I agree the sticky back makes it difficult to move from coat to coat, I also think it's a rather clever idea.

Being a woman, and thus usually stuck for a buttonhole, I am delighted to finally buy a poppy that doesn't leave holes in whatever I happen to be wearing.

And I'm sorry if I sound a tad shallow, but I would also like to see the British Legion produce a limited edition poppy-style brooch.

In a fashion-conscious world, I'll bet this would soon become a collector's item. And not only could it generate extra income for a worthy and important cause, but it might be a more robust reminder of wars past and present…perhaps to be worn all year round? Just a thought?
