Do men remember their first car better than their first girlfriend?

MOST men remember their first car more than their first girlfriend, a recent national newspaper survey revealed. In fact, getting their first set of wheels ranked higher than first girlfriends and 18th birthdays in men's memories. So why is your first car so special, and is it really more memorable than your first kiss? The PA visited Perth’s ‘Motor Mile’ and asked the gentlemen at Macrae & Dick to cast their minds back to both...

Mike Collins (51), Perth "I remember both! My first car was a 1967 Singer Gazelle. I sat my driving test in it back in 1973 when I was 17-years-old. My first girlfriend was a lovely young lady called Julie Buckley."

Graeme Thomson (25), Perth "Can’t remember the name of my first girlfriend, but I can remember my first car. It was a red Vauxhall Nova, registration K995 ASX. It cost me £1700 and I bought it in February 2001, six months before I passed my driving test."

John Crerar (35), Perth "My first car was a V-reg, metallic blue, Ford Escort Mark II. It cost me £400 and I bought it after I passed my driving test. Can’t remember my first girlfriend, so I suppose the survey is quite right."

Scott McGregor (19), Balbeggie "My first car was a blue, Vauxhall Corsa, T507 XGB. It cost me £1800 and I bought it the week before I sat my driving test. I’m a little more hazy about the name of my first girlfriend!"
