IN A shocking attack a woman was left lying in a Perth field after being mauled by a dog while the owners of the animal left the scene.
The woman was attacked as she walked her own dog in a field next to Necessity Brae at around 3pm on Thursday.
The injuries inflicted on the woman by the dog were so extensive that the victim underwent surgery on her leg at Perth Royal Infirmary.
But the owners of the dog which carried out the attack callously continued with their walk and ignored the plight of the wounded woman, leaving her lying in the field alone.
Perth police have expressed shock at the actions of the couple and appealed for information about them and the dog.
“It is alarming the couple left the victim and did not attempt to offer her any assistance,” a police spokesperson said.
The dog has been described as a large, light grey pointer-style dog, possibly a Weimaraner, and was wearing a dark-coloured greyhound-style collar.
The man with the dog wore a white top. His female companion has been described as in her 40s, with mid-length brown or ginger hair and was wearing a brown cardigan. She may have had her left arm in a sling or cast.
A vehicle seen nearby, a small, silver or grey, 4x4 vehicle, may be connected to the couple.
Anyone with information which may help the investigation is urged to contact police by calling 0300 111 2222.
