Hunt for £600,000 jewel thieves

TAYSIDE Police have renewed their appeal for information about thieves who took £600,000 of jewellery last week.

Police canvassed around the Oxfam Shop on South Street on Tuesday where the jewellery – contained in a blue canvas bag – was taken from a salesman who had previously been at Timothy Hardy jewellery shop.

However, while officers were continuing to scrutinise both public and private CCTV footage, they also needed info from the public.

A woman they are looking for details on was seen in the store. She is described as being aged between 20 and 25-years-old, 5’2 tall, slim and of European appearance.

She had long dark brown wavy hair tied in a pony tail and was wearing a light-coloured top, a black jacket, jeans and black trainers with white-coloured toes. She was also carrying a light-coloured patterned shopping bag.

It is believed this woman had also been in the jewellers at the same time as the salesman and a person fitting her description was also seen with two men after the theft.

One of the men is described as being about 6’0, with thick dark hair and of Asian appearance. He wore a black suit and was seen in South Street standing beside a dark-coloured saloon car – possibly an old style blue or black-coloured BMW.

The other man was about 5’9 and of dark European appearance, with thinning grey hair. He was seen running across South Street carrying a blue bag.

All three got in to the car, which drove off at speed along South Street.

Tayside Police would appeal to anyone who was in the area last Tuesday (August 11) to contact 0300 111 2222.
