Avatar spells further success for James Cameron

Avatar (12A)

FORCED to take over his late brother's work, ex-marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) becomes a scientific experiment on an alien planet labelled more dangerous than hell.

Sully has just three months to learn the unusual ways of life on Pandora and to befriend the indigenous people, with the help of Dr Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver).

With his multi-million pound ‘avatar’ body, pictured – designed to match the DNA of his twin brother and imitate the aliens' appearance – Sully’s mission is to convince the villagers to leave their sacred home so that humans can turn the site into a quarry for a precious stone lying underground.

But their connection with the land and the forest’s spirit means the tribe aren’t going anywhere without a fight.

From director James Cameron – who brought us Terminator, Aliens, and Titanic – Avatar is easily one of the most exciting movies of the year, pushing the boundaries of film-making.

Merging elements of sci-fi, military, war, romance and beauty, it’s a fresh take on traditional animation, which has something to offer everyone.

This is action like you have never seen if before – fast-paced and breathtaking, as characters soar through a jungle of stunning colours and exotic landscapes.

The storyline is abstract, original and full of surprises which will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through.

With a real feel-good factor which lets your imagination run wild, Avatar is one not to be missed on the big screen. Rating: 10/10.
