Embroiderers’ work displayed in public

AN exhibition of recent work by members of the Perth branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild runs in the North Church, Mill Street, from Tuesday, May 27, until Sunday, June 1.

This will be the first time the guild has staged an exhibition in association with Perth Festival, and is welcomed as an opportunity to take the art of embroidery to a wider viewing public.

In this city centre venue, the guild members will exhibit a huge range of pieces, from traditional embroidery to textiles and mixed media which bridge the gap between embroidery and art.

Framed pictures, wall hangings, postcards, dolls, handbags and embroidered book covers on view in the North Church reflect the huge range of interests among the Perth Embroiderers’ Guild members.

While many of the 40 or so members live in Perth, members come from across Perthshire, Kinross and Fife. The Perth branch of the guild was formed some 12 years ago and meets monthly in Oakbank Community Centre.

The members’ work can be viewed between 11am and 4pm from May 27-31, and from 1pm to 4pm on June 1.
