Chance to meet Sandi

MILLION-SELLING pop sensation Sandi Thom is set to busk for fans in a Perth store this afternoon.

To celebrate the release of her new album, the singer-songwriter from the north-east will be playing for free at HMV in the St John’s Shopping Centre.

Thom will meet fans and sign copies of her latest CD, The Pink And The Lily, which is being released through RCA Records today.

The album is the follow-up to her 2006 debut, Smile...It Confuses People, which achieved platinum status despite being recorded on a shoestring budget in a Cheshire barn.

Thom (26), from Macduff in Aberdeenshire, started out in music aged four after her aunt Nelly taught her to play piano.

At 14 she joined a covers band in her home village, travelling to bars, weddings and parties in a van borrowed from a local fishing company.

She famously came to global prominence three years ago after broadcasting 21 concerts over the Internet from her tiny basement in London’s Tooting district.

After signing to RCA, Thom’s debut single I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker enjoyed worldwide success when it was re-released in 2006 and went straight to number one in the UK.

The mainly a cappella anthem highlighted her strong, soulful voice and folk-tinged songwriting talent.

Thom is expected to play songs from both her albums at today’s Perth city centre gig, including her brand new single, The Devil’s Beat.

The session starts at 3pm.
