ATTITUDE-INFUSED rock ‘n’ roll is expected to erupt in Perth next week when London punks Krakatoa (main picture) arrive in town.
Supporting country blues rockers Alabama 3 , the Clash-loving five-piece are set to kick up a storm at the Fair City’s Concert Hall on Monday night.
Boasting a raw yet diverse sound that draws closely on the work of White Riot legends Strummer and Jones, as well as The Beatles, Blur and The Kinks, Krakatoa are being hyped up as an essential outfit in the finest traditions of genre-crossing rock.
The hotly-tipped band are led by vocalist Darien Smith, with backing from guitarists Jack O’Shea and Josh Schwegler, Andrew Monin (bass) and drummer Josh Boulton.
The Krakatoa boys have all been best mates for years, and despite their dodgy moniker the quintet earned plaudits back in July for their debut single Rock And Roll Revolution, and are now promoting its potent follow-up, Fat Cats, which was released last week.
Both efforts blend rock and pop in a gloriously infectious mix, with energetic guitar work to the fore throughout.
Since signing to indie label 360 Degree Music at the end of last year, Krakatoa have enjoyed a rapid rise and frontman Smith insists they’re all thrilled to be out on the road with their experienced London cohorts.
“We are so excited to be performing alongside Alabama 3,” he told Music Scene.
“Our music and style compliments each other perfectly and I think the crowds at the Concert Hall are going to love it.”
