Sandi puts on her show at St John’s

SCOTTISH singer-songwriter, Sandi Thom, will celebrate the release of her new album, “The Pink & The Lily”, with a free gig and album signing at the Perth branch of HMV in St John’s Shopping Centre on Tuesday.

The gig starts at 3pm, after which Sandi – pictured left – will remain in the store to meet fans and sign copies of the new album which is released through RCA Records the same day.

Having made her first album on a miniscule budget in a freezing barn in Cheshire, Sandi famously came to the world’s attention in her tiny basement in Tooting with her “21 nights in Tooting” tour – three weeks of concerts which she sent out to audiences worldwide via the Internet.

When “I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker” was re-released on her new label RCA, it went straight to number one in the UK and went on to be a hit world-wide.

Sandi may only be 26, but she’s been playing live for more than 12 years and her route to overnight success was a long one.

She grew up in Macduff, a little fishing village on the north-east coast, where her aunt Nelly started teaching her piano at the age of four.

By the time she was 14 she was performing in a covers band called The Residents, travelling to bars, weddings and parties in a smelly van borrowed from a local fishing company.

“The Pink & The Lily”, Sandi’s second album, includes her new single “The Devil’s Beat”.
