PIONEERING alt.blues outfit The Radiotones will return to their roots when they play Perth’s Twa Tams next month.
Although two-thirds of the band still live in and around the Fair City, ‘Tones gigs on their home territory have become a rare occurrence in recent years since frontman and former Perth resident Dave Arcari returned to his native Glasgow.
“We only play a handful of shows each year these days,” said Dave.
“But that’s down to myself being on the road pretty much full-time as a solo touring artist.
“It’s kind of frustrating when I get advertised as ‘former Radiotones frontman’, or asked why did Radiotones split up?
“Radiotones is alive and kicking – just because we’re all busy with other things doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road for the band.”
Driven by Arcari’s National slide guitar and gritty vocals, the band’s sound owes as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as it does pre-war Delta blues.
Besides making a name for himself at home and abroad, Arcari has been busy writing in recent times, with a host of new material expected to be unveiled at the Scott Street venue on July 4.
