Sunday gigs

MUSIC fans are being invited to attend a string of shows in Perth over the next five Sundays.

The intimate Greyfriars Bar has performances from BOB CHEEVERS on Sunday, then THE HUMBLE HOBOS (August 3), MAD FOX and DOUBLE BARREL (Aug 10), THE ORIGINAL WINDOWS (Aug 17) and EWAN MACFARLANE (Aug 24), to help keep the Fair City’s live scene bubbling over.

The line-up is an eclectic mix of Fair City favourites, with the added bonus of Emmy Award-winning conversational bluesman Cheevers.

Country folk fans should look out for Perth’s own Humble Hobos, whose whisky-fuelled songs talk of travelling away from home, women and hard times. Check out www.myspace.com/thehumblehobos for more.

Scottish covers outfit Mad Fox mix classic and contemporary rock from the likes of AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse and Foo Fighters. See www.myspace.com/madfoxband

On the same bill Perth-based Double Barrel capture the essence of Jamaica’s musical heritage. Listen to their jangling melodies and bass-driven hypnotic rhythms at www.myspace.com/skankytoday

On a different tack again, classic rockers The Original Windows take their musical inspiration from The Beatles, Stones, Kinks and Zombies. Their site is www.myspace.com/theoriginalwindows

Meanwhile, former Grim Northern Social frontman MacFarlane is a well-established favourite at Greyfriars where he has performed numerous sets in recent years. View www.myspace.com/ewanmacfarlane

Tickets for all shows, which start at 7.30pm, are available from the South Street venue on 01738 633036.

Season tickets covering the five gigs can also be had for £25.
