Bluesmen entertain at Pitcairngreen

A SERIES of jam sessions hosted by one of Perthshire’s leading bluesmen steps up a gear this weekend.

Regular musical entertainment led by Wang Dang Delta and Rancho Rebop & The Full Moon Howlers guitarist Pete Caban is being promised at the Pitcairngreen Inn over the coming months.

The latest session is taking place on Sunday following a successful inaugural outing earlier this month. Pete said a number of musicians, both local and from further afield, are expected to treat those present to a popular melting pot of different blues-related styles.

“It’s a great chance for folks to get together and play a few tunes, and if the opener is anything to go by, there are likely to be some interesting and spontaneous collaborations at future sessions,” he told Music Scene yesterday.

“The backline and PA system are set up and ready to roll, so all the musicians have to bring along are their instruments and, of course, their repertoire!”

The intention is to run the sessions once or twice a month over the autumn and winter.

All those with an interest in blues-related music, either as performers or as listeners, are being promised a warm welcome.

* RANCHO Rebop will join Texan songstress Katy Moffat for a double bill at Perth’s AK Bell Library Theatre on Friday.

The same acts last played together in Perthshire to a full house at the Birnam Institute some 18 months ago.

Performing a blend of western swing and bluegrass, the Big County cowboy-influenced Ranchos feature Dave Amos (vocals), Pete Caban (vocals / guitar), Owen Nicholson (dobro / slide), Adam Bulley (mandolin / banjo), Pete Honeyman (double bass), Pete Clark and Jim Kerr (fiddles).
