A MAJOR live music event starting in Fife tonight will feature a strong Perthshire connection.

Fifestock 2009, which runs for the next three weeks, will showcase a host of musical talents including Perth-based outfit Wang Dang Delta and former Music Scene scribe Dave Arcari.

The late John Martyn had been billed to headline the festival until his untimely death at the end of last month, but even without the legend’s presence there’s still a host of top names due to appear.

Former Moody Blues front man and Wings member Denny Laine plays the first gigs gets the event underway tonight and tomorrow at the Inn at Lathones, near St Andrews.

Others due to take part include Benny Gallagher, Henry McCullough, John Jorgenson, Henry Priestman, Bruce Watson, Hugh Cornwell, Jackie Leven and The Coalporters.

Alt-blues ‘terrorist’ Arcari appears at the venue on Saturday at 2.30pm, before Wang Dang Delta the following afternoon.
