Phil’s fling at Twa Tams

ACCLAIMED Scottish songsmith Phil Campbell calls in at a Perth venue on Saturday.

The west coast singer-songwriter will be playing at the Twa Tams as part of a short national tour to promote his new single, Wrecking Ball Nights.

Campbell, who has been based in London for the past 15 years, started out with Wah Wah Jack in the early Nineties before releasing his debut solo set Fresh New Life in 1997.

He later formed another band, White Buffalo, issuing two albums on Edel Records and undertaking extensive European tour duties.

When they split, Campbell battled back to land a deal with EMI, before going on to receive plaudits for his albums Joy (2007) and After The Garden (2008).

Now he’s set to unveil his latest opus, which was recorded with his tour mate Richard Causon, who is a member of Americana exponents Whiskytown.

“The new album is more ‘live’ sounding and a blend of my love for American country music and Scottish hymnal melody,” Phil told Music Scene yesterday.

“I went to church every week when I was a boy, and sang in my own accent.

“Growing up as a musician, I would put on another voice when performing. The album is my desire to express my own voice again.”
