Perth covers band Slick AudioFraud rock the joint

COVERS specialists AudioFraud were the latest in a series of bands to take to the stage at Perth’s A Month of Sundays mini-festival.

The Fair City outfit stormed Greyfriars Bar in South Street as part of the pub’s annual extravaganza, going about their business with a slick professionalism that belied their tongue-in-cheek name.

Following on from Davie Rollo and Joe Gallacher’s well-received appearance at the venue the previous weekend, the five-piece performed an eclectic range of material that included classics by The Rolling Stones, Marc Bolan, The Kinks and ZZ Top.

But it was when they turned up the volume for a string of AC/DC numbers, the best of the bunch being Whole Lotta Rosie, that the joint started to rock big time.

AudioFraud vocalist John Corstorphine has a real feel for the Aussie hard rock legends’ material - and his performance was driven by an obvious enthusiasm.

The rest of the Fraudsters’ line-up is Gary Walker on lead guitar, Steven Sleigh (rhythm guitar), bassist Chris Donaldson and Steve Smith (drums).

And Donaldson’s thundering strings were certainly to the fore as the band gave a massively impressive rendition of the Cream classic Sunshine Of Your Love.

Elsewhere in a blistering show, it was sharp guitar work from Walker and Sleigh that made a version of ZZ Top’s Sharp Dressed Man a stand-out.

Further crowd-pleasers such as The Kinks’ You Really Got Me, American Idiot by American punk favourites Green Day and Credence Clearwater Revival standard Born In The Bayou filled out a thoroughly enjoyable set.

A Month of Sundays spokesman Peter Bell told Music Scene he believes AudioFraud have the potential to hit the mark with a wider audience.

The music scribe revealed that there’s currently massive demand for the group to play pub gigs and special events, the next of which will be a slot supporting Perth blues / soul combo Wang Dang Delta at Perth Racecourse on September 5.

And Peter is urging anyone who hasn’t yet sampled AudioFraud’s live efforts for themselves to get along.

“Trust me, you won’t feel cheated!” he declared.

Meanwhile, this year’s A Month of Sundays concludes on Sunday with an appearance by Perthshire musical collective The True Gents, who were featured in last week’s Music Scene.
