Touch of the ivory tickling

PIANO man David Newton makes a return visit to Perth this weekend.

The world-renowned performer, who last appeared in the Fair City in March, will be playing at The Bothy in Kinnoull Street on Sunday.

Newton, who previously starred in a duet at the same venue with top saxophonist Art Themen, will line up this time around in a specially formed combo.

Besides the pianist, Berkeley Street Reunion will also feature Bobby Wishart on sax, bassist Ronnie Goodman and James Lindsay on drums.

Wishart was Newton’s music teacher at school and they later played regularly together at the Glasgow Society of Musicians Club based in the city’s Berkley Street.

Tickets for the lunchtime Bothy gig are available from Bright New Day Jazz on 07831 760963.
