THE highly-regarded Wihan String Quartet (above) give two performances in Perthshire later this month.
They open Perth Chamber Music Society’s 2009-2010 season in Perth Museum and Art Gallery on Tuesday, October 13, and the following evening are guests of Strathearn Music Society.
The Quartet was founded in 1985 in Czechoslovakia and still has its original members. It won the London International String Quartet Competition in 1991 and makes regular appearances in the US, Japan and Europe. It broadcasts on BBC Radio 3.
At the concerts the Wihan will play quartets by Haydn and Smetana, and for the Schubert String Quintet in C it is joined by Jamie Walton (cello). Jamie has a growing international reputation and has recorded the Chopin and Rachmaninov sonatas, and the Saint-Saens, Elgar and Maiakovsky concertos.
The Strathearn Music Society concert is in Morrison’s Academy Hall, Strathearn Terrace, Crieff, at 7.30pm. Tickets for non-subscribers are £10, students £3, and may be purchased at the door.
