Mauro Picotto to spin discs at City

RAVERS in Perth are set to receive a festive treat in the shape of techno legend Mauro Picotto.

The Italian DJ and producer is due to play a live set at City nightclub on Saturday in an event put together with help from the Colours promoters.

Picotto, who celebrates his 43rd birthday on Christmas Day, started out in the early Nineties as a member of rave outfit Cappella, before scoring success later in the decade with solo efforts like Lizard (Gonna Get You), Iguana and Pulsar.

Equally respected for his remixing work for the likes of Josh Wink and U2, he achieved further hits with the anthems Komodo and Live This Like That.

His collaboration with Mario Più, Communication (Somebody Answer The Phone), reached the UK’s top five at the end of 1999, while his trance single I Feel Love went top 20 a year later under the pseudonym CRW. Picotto’s remix helped to propel On The Beach by York into the top five in spring 2000.

The solo albums Double (2000) and The Others (2002) followed on the Media label, as well as remixes and productions for Freddie Mercury, Jimmy Somerville, Pet Shop Boys and U2.

Picotto formed both Bakerloo Music and the Alchemy label in 2002, going on to release several monster club tracks including New Time New Place and the Alchemy EP.

In recent years, Picotto has concentrated his studio efforts on his string of Meganite Ibiza albums, while the disc-spinner’s live schedule sees him playing in front of some of clubland’s biggest crowds in the UK, Europe and South America.

Tickets for the Boxing Day bash are available in advance from Perth outlets Sportsters, Concorde Music and Manifesto. It’s also pay-at-the door, with opening time at 10pm.
