A PERFORMANCE by country blues outfit Black Cat Jook Band kicked off a new season of events at Glenfarg Folk Club last night.
The Scots outfit took their authentic, Memphis-influenced sound to the Glenfarg Hotel, after last appearing in the Big County at Perth’s Malt House back in November, in a double bill with Perthshire’s own True Gents.
Boasting a long history on the nation’s blues scene, the Black Cats have supported a host of visiting US artists, including Otis Grand, Jook Boy Bonner, Larry Johnson, Stefan Grossman and the legendary Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup.
Next on the Glenfarg club’s bill is Scots-American singer-songwriter David Ferrard, who will appear at the homely venue on Monday.
Ferrard has been making his own mark on the folk scene since clinching a Celtic Connections ‘Danny Award’ in 2006.
He has performed at dozens of festivals and his album, Across The Troubled Wave, was released to critical acclaim last year.
Looking further ahead, the ‘Farg set-up has multi-instrumentalist Claire Mann with Old Blind Dogs member Aaron Jones on February 1, then folk-rock duo Eilidh Grant and Peter Cooke - who cover material by the likes of Richard Thomson - on February 8.
All events start at 8.30pm, with ticket details available from the website www.glenfargfolkclub.com
