X-Factor star Olly Murs to play Perth’s City venue

Olly Murs

A SINGER who gained millions of fans after taking part in the X-Factor is set to visit Perth, club bosses revealed yesterday.

Olly Murs, who was voted the runner-up in the last series of the mega-popular television talent show, will be performing at the City venue in South Methven Street next month.

The former call centre worker was pipped at the post by rival Joe McElderry in the X-Factor final last December 13.

Murs (25) won the hearts of the series’ judging panel – record industry gurus Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, and star singers Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue – with versions of Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, Robbie Williams’ favourite She’s the One and other songs.

The singer was forced to miss his brother’s wedding – even though it was held just 16 miles from the competition studios – to take part in the semi-finals.

Memorably, he joined Robbie Williams in the final to perform the former Take That star’s massive hit Angels.

Following a sell-out X-Factor tour, Murs will sing many of the tracks he performed live on television at City on Friday, April 23.

City manager Graham Cunningham said the visit represents a coup for the nightclub.

“We are really pleased to have secured Olly. He is very high profile at the moment and this will only get bigger as his record career takes off.

“He is not only a real entertainer but also a genuinely nice guy too. It is a pleasure to bring someone of his calibre to the people of Perth.”

Mr Cunningham said the club had been inundated with ticket requests from all over the UK.

Tickets are available from Sportsters in Perth. The gig starts at 10pm on April 23.
