FRAMES Gallery are delighted to be holding a solo exhibition of work by the Perthshire artist whose engaging illustrations are the colourful ‘new look’ of Perth Festival of the Arts.
Madeleine Hand has been living and working in Dunkeld for many years.
She studied illustration at Glasgow School of Art, and since completing her studies in 1981 she has developed a very individual and recognisable style in her illustrations and her paintings.
Towards the end of last year, Madeleine was selected by the Perth Festival committee to design a number of illustrations which would become the new face of the Perth Festival.
Perth Festival chairman Craig Dennis explained why Madeleine’s vibrant pen and ink illustrations merited the commission: “We chose Madeleine’s work because we felt it best met the design brief of capturing the Festival atmosphere and strongly identifying the festival with Perth.”
Madeleine’s Perth Festival illustrations will form part of the exhibition at Frames Gallery. These images are not for sale, but the gallery has produced a small limited edition of giclée prints of two of the festival illustrations which are signed by the artist and will be for sale.
The exhibition of recent work by Madeleine Hand opens at Frames Gallery, 10 Victoria Street, Perth, on Saturday, May 17, and continues until June 14.
Meanwhile, Perth Photographic Society has been exhibiting at Frames Gallery during Perth Festival for several years, and are delighted to once again be hosting this show.
“I believe really good photography can be the equal of the more traditional styles of art, and an exhibition like this can give local photographers a chance to show what they are capable of,” said gallery owner Hugh Goring.
