A touch of art on the river

ARTS Festival fever comes to Tay Street in Perth tomorrow and Sunday for the popular Art on the River weekend when artists and crafts people will set up stalls along the riverside.

And joining in the spirit of the occasion is St Matthew’s Church, whose members will again be running the highly successful ARTS Cafe in front of the landmark church.

St Matthew’s minister, the Rev Scott Burton, said: “Last year’s cafe was a huge success with more than 100 visitors to the church as well as plenty of customers and stall holders who enjoyed a cup of hot soup or our range of Fair Trade teas and coffees. This year the cafe will be open on both days.”

Mr Burton will be throwing the front doors of St Matthew’s wide open for visitor to look round the church and also take in a specially created slide presentation inside the sanctuary of the church.

“Lots of people who came to the Art on the River last year said they had always wanted to see inside St Matthew’s.

“We want everyone to know they are welcome to come in for a look around and visit the cafe. Art lovers can find sustenance during a pause from the busy arts and crafts stalls and leave refreshed homemade soup, filled rolls and homebaking. Some of the homebaking are masterpieces in themselves and vistors can sit in or take away to continue browsing the arts exhibition outside.”

The Art Cafe is open tomorrow from 10am-3.30pm and on Sunday from 12.30pm-3.30pm.
