Police liaison officer joins the T party

THE PEOPLE of Kinross-shire now have a personal police contact for the massive T in the Park musical extravaganza.

Sergeant David Rankine has been appointed as the dedicated liaison officer for the 2008 Balado bonanza which will attract 80000 revellers into the area.

The sergeant, based at Kinross police station, will spend the time leading up to T in the Park ensuring local residents are made aware of key stages in the planning process, including traffic and parking.

The head of policing in Perth and Kinross, Chief Superintendent Matt Hamilton, will also head up the overall policing operation.

He explained why there is a need of a point of contact for local people.

He said: “The event has grown massively in size since 1997.

“This year will see 80,000 people attend the festival each day.

“We recognise that as T in the Park gets bigger, so too do the numbers of people and cars travelling through Balado and Kinross.

“There is a need to engage with the local communities to keep them informed about some of the planning issues for T in the Park and to listen to questions or concerns.

Any local residents with questions or concerns can contact Sergeant Rankine by calling Kinross Police Station on 01577 867770.
