Rock on with musical statues in chill out area

THERE will be an oasis of calm amid the festival fever this weekend thanks to a specially created green gladed healthy heart at the centre of the massive Balado site.

As 80,000 revellers descend on the Kinross-shire enclave and the area is whipped up into a four-day-long T in the Park party frenzy, space has been put aside to give worn-out festival goers a chance to chill out, recharge and indulge in some Healthy T.

Dispelling the idea the music festival is all alcohol and excesses, organisers today proudly unveiled their special sanctuary for the energy-sapped.

Chief Executive Geoff Ellis explained: “Healthy T, with support from the Scottish Government, has been expanded for T in the Park 2008, and is situated in a new bespoke gladed area, close to the Pet Sounds Tent.

“It is the place to unwind, and enjoy the best in delicious nutritious food from around the globe,” the organiser promised.

“Building on the success of last year, Healthy T has now grown to cover mind, body and soul.

“Indulge in a selection of our holistic treatments, including Indian head massage, neck and shoulder massage, reiki and reflexology.”

Whatever the weather throws at the festival this weekend, the refuge for revellers will be open, hail or shine.

Should the sun make an appearance there will be space at star-shaped picnic tables to shelter in the shade of trees, or in the more likely prospect of rain there will be warm cuppas brewing up in the sumptuous giant tipi tea tent stuffed full of comfy squashy cushions.

Free fruit will be available, as will the very best in healthy Scottish produce. And tasty delights on offer include organic lamb burgers, cullen skink, hot-smoked salmon rolls, olives, smoothies and organic lemonade.

Japanese restaurant Nanukusa, voted this year’s best Glasgow newcomer, will be whipping up vegetarian sushi and ramen noodle soup on site.

And since laughter is considered a healthy medicine, giggle-inducing entertainment in the area includes musical statue championships, limbo dancing and a disco complete with the all-important glitter ball.
