Rush for T tickets

EAGER music fans snapped up an incredible 40,000 T in the Park tickets in 10 hours.

After being put on sale at noon on Tuesday, all the early bird allocation of passes to the 2009 version of the Balado festival were sold-out by 10pm the same day.

The brisk business on the phone lines and over the internet means half the tickets for the 16th T in the Park, which takes place from July 10-12 next year, have already been claimed.

Organisers DF Concerts revealed yesterday that “a significant number” of Thursday camping upgrades have already been sold for next year’s festival.

Those who missed out this week will have to wait until the new year for another chance, when the first details of the artist line-up are due to be announced.

DF Concerts chief Geoff Ellis said the rapid-fire sale had proved the success of this year’s event, which only ended last Sunday night.

“We are delighted to have been able to give so many T in the Parkers the opportunity to book their place at next year’s festival, and to have sold out in a single day,” he said.

“There was a terrific atmosphere onsite and staggering performances across all stages.”

Mr Ellis, who would like to book veteran mega-star David Bowie as a headliner, said work on organising next year’s event had already started.

Meanwhile, George Kyle, from sponsors Tennent’s Lager, said he was “delighted” with the response from fans following last weekend’s 80,000-capacity extravaganza.

“Our thanks go out to our partners for planning such an unforgettable weekend,” he said.

“We look forward to the announcement next year.”
