Review: The Ting Tings at T in the park

A SPECTACULAR set from energetic indie duo The Ting Tings blew the roof off the King Tut’s Tent on T’s closing day.

The claustrophobic venue was filled to bursting point with enthusiastic fans of all ages, who willingly bowed to every whim of lead singer Katie White as she and bandmate Jules De Martino rifled through their hugely successful debut album.

The ten-track We Started Nothing topped the charts in May along with accompanying single That’s Not My Name.

And the audience, who clearly thought they were witnessing something special, greeted almost every word with uncontrollable enthusiasm, bordering on hysteria.

Such a reaction may have proved intimidating to some, but such has been the Salford pair’s rise to stardom that it seemed as if they were operating in their natural habitat.

Sporting a mini kilt over flame red tights, lead vocalist Katie’s energy was a sight to behold as she used every inch of the stage in a charismatic performance.

Electric guitars featured heavily, but the highlight occurred during new single Shut Up And Let Me Go when the now near trademark big bass drum received a pounding.

High-octane and uncomplicated, the six tracks on display had a stripped down feel that made them almost instantly memorable.

An extended introduction to their opening number, Great DJ, showed a skill for his craft away from their rehearsed studio sound.
