Scarlet’s story is a salutary tale

‘ACCEPTANCE’ is a theatre performance written and performed by Lisa Nicoll, a professional actress and RSAMD graduate, which is staged at Birnam Arts tomorrow evening.

It tells the story of Scarlet, a woman who starts drinking aged 14, as a way of being accepted by friends and the opposite sex. Sixteen years on she believes that going out and binge drinking nearly every night is the way to make her happy and find the man of her dreams. In reality, her health, job and self-respect all begin to suffer.

Lisa said: “I had the idea for a play about binge drinking about five years ago. I collected stories from real life incidents over the years and brought them together to form the story of a girl who most people know, who many men have dated and who we can all relate to in today’s society of trying to fit in.

“On the back of these, I have already produced new commissions to perform the play for secondary school pupils in Aberdeenshire and Edinburgh and I am delighted at how well people have responded to it.”

Lisa appears at Birnam Arts at 8pm tomorrow. Tickets are £8/£6. To book call the box office on 01350 727674 or go online at www.birnamarts.com
