PERTH Youth Theatre – Perth’s creative young community – is opening its doors again at the start of an exciting new season.
Perth Youth Theatre is one of the few companies which starts afresh every year with recruitment workshops for members new and old and is considered to be one of Scotland’s leading youth theatres.
Sessions for young playwrights and performers run weekly from October to the end of June, introducing participants from age 12 to 25 to a wide variety of theatre skills from script-writing to acting and directing.
The senior YT groups (16 to 25) participate in intensive three-hour workshops each week, and also have the opportunity to get involved in additional projects via Horsecross’s outreach programme. Youth Theatre members are sometimes offered the opportunity to play their part in main-house productions.
As the company’s age range spans in to the 20s, many participants combine membership with full time work and/or education and travel throughout Scotland to attend their weekly sessions.
Associate director (youth theatre) Jennifer McGregor said: “Members commit to the youth theatre and feel a sense of ownership about everything we do.”
Last term the company performed at a major national conference and received rave reviews for their innovative productions this summer.
Application forms can be picked up in Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall or by contacting Gary Merralls – on 01738 472700 or gmerralls@horsecross.co.uk – and must be returned by September 12.
