AMONG the international headline acts who jetted into Perth last summer for the inaugural Southern Fried Festival of American roots music was Oregon songstress Rachel Harrington.
Fans can enjoy a second helping of Rachel’s country and soul fusion when she returns to the Fair City on Monday, April 20, performing in the intimate setting of Redrooms at Perth Theatre as part of the Monday Night Thing acoustic roots series.
The gig comes at the start of her extensive UK tour with her regular partner, multi-instrumentalist Zak Borden, in support of her much acclaimed current album ‘City Of Refuge’.
The album farms personal and mythical stories from the American West, and is the follow-up to her acclaimed debut album, The Bootlegger’s Daughter.
Guest musicians on City of Refuge include fiddle legend Tim O’Brien and Dayan Kai with some gorgeous clarinet accompaniments.
The album’s 10 tracks include a version of Bobby Gentry’s classic, Ode to Billy Joe.
Rachel Harrington’s support act on Monday is hard-working Perth country outfit Southpaw playing an acoustic set.
