Cathedral is setting for first Scottish show

THE Ljubljana Waldorf Choir from Slovenia are visiting Scotland for the first time and will perform a selection of arrangements of sacred, traditional and contemporary songs from Slovenia in Dunkeld Cathedral on Tuesday evening.

The choir of 40 singers have toured extensively throughout Europe and will be led by their musical director Igor Velepic. Touring with the group is the well-known Slovenian ethnomusicologist Ljoba Jence, who is one of their country's foremost folk singers.

Pete Clark, one of Scotland’s finest fiddlers, will be performing with friends. Pete lives locally, not far from the birth places of Niel Gow and Robert Mackintosh. The beautiful Perthshire landscape has been the inspiration for many of his compositions. Also appearing at the concert is Sine Nomine, a local choral group from Highland Perthshire.

The Dunkeld Cathedral concert brings together a selection of international and local talent of the finest quality performing in a wonderful setting at 7.15pm on Tuesday.

Tickets are available from Dunkeld News (newsagents) and The Taybank in Dunkeld priced £5, with proceeds being shared by the Dunkeld Cathedral and the performers.

The concert is being organised by the Pitlochry Partnership who will be visiting Bled in Slovenia later this year as part of a tourism development initiative. Slovenia is the most northerly republic of the former Yugoslavia federation, famed for the magnificent mountain scenery and the warm hospitality of the people. There are many similarities between Slovenia and Highland Perthshire and the partnership hope to establish strong links which can create new opportunities to benefit both of the communities.
