A FOLK duo from Aberfeldy achieved high marks in a new competition celebrating Runrig at the recent Stirling Provincial Mod.
David ‘Dibble’ Morton and Kenny Graham, both members of Aberfeldy and District Gaelic Choir, sang ‘Ubhal as Airde’ (The Highest Apple), competing against 18 other entries.
“It was a very worthwhile experience,” said ‘Dibble’. “Not only did we finish in the top four, but it was good to air our arrangement before our big performance in Aberfeldy, in front of people who know us!”
The duo (right) will be performing at the Craic-ing Cancer Concert in Aberfeldy Town Hall on Saturday, July 25, alongside top performers Isobel Rutter and Margaret Bennett, and Aberfeldy and District Gaelic Choir.
Tickets are still available from Susan MacDonald (01887 820478) or Kate Coaton (01887 830315).
Susan and Kate, also members of the Gaelic Choir and both affected by breast cancer, decided to organise an evening of comedy, music and song to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer 2000.
“There’s so much talent in our choir,” said Susan, “we’re all thrilled for Dibble and Kenny and their growing success as a folk duo – and Kate and I are delighted they’ll be singing at our July concert. And it’s great that the choir will be performing too.”
Aberfeldy and District Gaelic Choir will also be performing at the Perthshire and Angus Provincial Mod with a temporary conductor next weekend, but the choir is currently seeking a new Musical Director.
