Classy treat for concert goers

CLASSICAL buffs are in for a treat next month when the National Youth Choir of Scotland appear at Perth Concert Hall.

Christopher Bell, artistic director and conductor of NYCoS, said a diverse range of both traditional and contemporary numbers was planned for the July 18 performance.

“This year’s auditions have produced an outstanding line-up of singers,” he said yesterday.

“We’ll be performing some multi-choir music, alongside some of the UK’s outstanding choral classics. I’m very much looking forward to it all,” he said.

The choir’s appearance marks the climax of a residential course which its 120 members, all aged between 16 and 24, attended at Edinburgh’s Merchiston Castle School.

A 70-strong training choir, comprised of youngsters aged between 15 and 19, is also set to make the trip to Perthshire, with Michael Kibblewhite conducting.

One of the UK’s best-known choral directors, he has founded and directed Cambridge Chorale, Cantate Youth Choir and English Festival Voices.
