Cash will help preserve art at Fergusson

A PROJECT by Perth and Kinross Council is one of 10 nationwide to have been collectively awarded more than £150,000 of Museums Galleries Scotland’s (MGS) grant funding.

A grant of £14,728 will help Perth and Kinross Council preserve and improve access to the substantial Margaret Morris Collection which was gifted to the local authority.

A choreographer and artist, Margaret Morris was also the lifelong partner of Scottish modernist artist JD Fergusson. The project will greatly enhance the Fergusson Gallery Collection, which is a Recognised Collection of National Significance, and will strengthen and enrich opportunities for display, research and learning. The Margaret Morris Collection also has the potential to foster exciting new theatre and dance partnerships.

The convener of the Council’s Lifelong Learning Committee, Elizabeth Grant, said: “We are delighted to have secured this funding. It will make a vital contribution to our work to bring the wonderful Margaret Morris Collection to public viewing. We very much look forward to launching the Collection in 2010 as part of our Perth 800 celebrations.”
