PERTHSHIRE Art Association (PAA) is holding its 58th Annual Exhibition at Perth Museum and Art Gallery from next Saturday (November 7) until December 12.
Filling two galleries at the museum, the display encompasses many different subjects, styles and media and ensures that there is something for all tastes. The exhibition also offers the opportunity to purchase original artwork at reasonable prices.
This year, the guest artist is Kirsty Lorenz. Kirsty is known for her flower ‘portraits’ mainly produced in oils on canvas. She is the first artist in Scotland to have a studio in a railway station – on Platform 2 of Ladybank Railway Station in Fife.
Kirsty received a B.A. Hons in Art History from Goldsmiths College, London, where she studied from 1989 to 1992. Before returning to painting in 2002 Kirsty ran galleries, projects and workshops in hospitals for Artlink-Edinburgh, she was also a member of The Scottish Arts Council Visual Arts and a freelance Arts Education consultant.
Pride of place in the exhibition has also been reserved for the winners of the third Perth Kinnoull Rotary Club Youth Art Award. Open to pupils of Perthshire secondary schools, the competition was judged by a panel of artists from PAA, with the winning entries framed for display. Prizes have been awarded for first and second place in each age group to:
S1-S3: 1 Jack Rimmer, Perth Academy; 2 Murdo Elwis, Strathallan.
S4-S6: 1 Hannah Cox, Strathallan; 2 Charlotte Bryant, Kilgraston.
The prizes will be presented by Roseanna Cunningham, MSP, at the official opening of the exhibition next Friday.
PAA’s long running relationship with Perth Museum and Art Gallery began in 1935 when two of its founder members, Robert Brough and R Hay Robertson, bequeathed a significant amount of money to establish a serious art collection and open a new gallery for Perth. The Association, which currently has just under 200 members from all over Perthshire, has exhibited at the Museum since 1952.
