GLENALMOND College welcomes distinguished oboist Nicholas Daniel to its Remembrance Day Recital on Sunday, November 8, at 12.30pm.
Daniel’s long and distinguished career began when, at the age of 18, he won the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition and then went on to win further competitions in Europe. At his debut at the BBC Proms in 1992 the Sunday Times described him as one of the world’s greatest exponents of the oboe
He has been a concerto soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, and in addition to his extensive experience in baroque and 19th-century music, he is an important force in the creation and performance of new repertoire for oboe.
An active chamber musician, Daniel is a founder member of the Haffner Wind Ensemble and the Britten Oboe Quartet. As a conductor, he has worked with orchestras in the UK and in Europe, and as Associate Artistic Director of the Britten Sinfonia he conducts this award-winning orchestra regularly. He is oboist to the California-based chamber ensemble Camerata Pacifica and is Artistic Director of the Leicester International Festival.
The recital also features pianist Paul Turner, a Royal Academy of Music Honours graduate who in 1996 was elected an Associate of the Academy.
The musicians’ programme in the College’s Music School Concert Hall will include Sonatas by JS Bach, Rubbra and Saint-Saëns; Hamilton Harty’s Three Miniatures; and Britten’s Insect Pieces.
Tickets priced £12 (students £8) or £22 for the recital and lunch can be purchased from Wendy Dunn, Glenalmond College, Perth PH1 3RY, telephone 01738 842065 or email: wendydunn@glenalmondcollege.co.uk
