TWO members of the Perth branch of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland (TMSA) received special honours at the organisation’s agm in Aberdeen last week.
Aberfeldy musician Douglas Craik was elected to the post of National Convener of the TMSA. Douglas spent almost 40 years in the financial industry before retiring to become a consultant. A TMSA director since 2008, he has been actively involved with the organisation’s Young Traditional Musicians awards and tour.
A familiar face at folk clubs throughout Scotland, Douglas is a member of the Aberfeldy-based group ‘Simply Burns’, and he recently released his first solo album, ‘From My Point of View’.
Doris Rougvie, from Perthshire, was made an Honorary Member in recognition of her long time dedication to TMSA and to Scottish folk music in general.
Doris is a popular guest at festivals and folk clubs, with many trophies for traditional singing. She has judged countless singing competitions at TMSA festivals and always encourages young singers. She hosts “The House Of Song” and “The Songs of Scotland” series of concerts at Celtic Connections and is a long-serving committee member of Glenfarg Folk Club.
Equally at home singing traditional and contemporary material, Doris has recently released her new CD ‘My Joy of You’.
The TMSA was established in 1966 to promote, present and preserve the traditional music and song heritage of Scotland, and is the country’s oldest individual membership organization associated with traditional music and song.
