PERTH Amateur Operatic Society are looking forward to bringing Thoroughly Modern Millie to audiences in Perth Theatre this spring.
Based on the 1967 film starring Julie Andrews, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small town girl who goes to New York to marry for money instead of love (a thoroughly modern aim in 1922 when women were just entering the workforce).
Millie begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle of the ‘roaring Twenties’. But things take a turn for the worse when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a white slavery ring, Mrs Meers who, with the assistance of two Chinese henchmen despatches any orphaned women checking into her hotel to Hong Kong.
Lead roles in Perth Amateur Operatic Society’s production are taken by Susie Gibb as Millie Dillmount, Ian Cowmeadow (Jimmy Smith). Fiona McCabe (Miss Dorothy Brown), Michael Conlon (Trevor Graydon), and Anita Collins (Mrs Meers).
Tickets are now available for this production, which will be staged in Perth Theatre from Friday, April 2, until Saturday, April 10. Ticket sales can be co-ordinated through Horsecross by calling 01738 621031 or online at www.horsecross.co.uk.
