TOP international pianist Llyr Williams praised Perth audiences for their music knowledge and appreciation as he embarked on his epic voyage through Beethoven’s piano sonatas in Perth Concert Hall on Tuesday.
Making a welcome return to the Fair City venue for First Thoughts, the first of an eight concert series charting Beethoven’s musical development through his 32 piano sonatas, Llyr said: “It is a great privilege to be embarking on the Beethoven concerts at Perth Concert Hall.
“This is the first time I have played all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas in a series. I have built up a rapport with Perth audiences over the years; they are very knowledgeable and appreciative and I always enjoy coming back. I hope to take the audience on a journey through a largely chronological survey of Beethoven’s most profound and personal music to see how his language developed over time.”
‘Beethoven: a life in Eight Chapters’ continues on Wednesday, March 3, with ‘Sonatas of Youth’ – No 5, No 6, No 7 and No 8 Pathétique.
Llyr’s complete cycle of Beethoven’s sonatas reaches its conclusion on December 8.
