The Fiddle Tree at Birnam

THE next evening of quality music brought to Highland Perthshire by the Fiddle Tree showcases acoustic music from locally-based musicians – the Dave Amos Acoustic Trio, internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Fraser Nimmo, and vocal group, Just Singin’, led by highly rated Scottish singer Christine Kydd.

Fraser comes to Birnam on Friday on the back of a run of dates in Texas, and the release of his latest album, ‘The Best of Five and a Wee Bit Live’, which features no less than Fairport Convention playing alongside Fraser on his own composition, Retreat from Santa Ponsa.

“It was an enormous thrill to be invited to support Fairport Convention on their 30th anniversary tour of Britain,” says Fraser, who graduated into a full-time career as a musician and some-time actor after gaining a Master's Degree in Theology from St Andrews University!

The troubadour’s songs cover the whole gamut of human experience, often delivered with a mischievous sense of humour and a serious musical ability on guitar and banjo.

Most of the tracks on the new album are self-penned, with a sprinkling of well-arranged and performed traditional songs including Ae Fond Kiss and Road Tae Dundee.

The Fiddle Tree concert in the Birnam Arts Centre on Friday, February 19, starts at 8pm.

Tickets – adults £8 in advance or £10 on the door, under-18s tickets are £3 or two for £5 – from Birnam CD 01350 727158, Zigzags 01350 728666 (cash or cheques only). Card bookings: online only at www.thebooth.co.uk
